Big Chief Shaka Zulu

Shaka Zulu is Big Chief of the Golden Feather Hunters in New Orleans, Louisiana. Big Chief Shaka serves also as a lecturer on the rich history and culture of the New Orleans Black Masking Indian tradition and his suits are exhibited world wide. Big Chief Shaka’s Suits are a year long process of hand sewn craftsmanship, using the downtown three-dimensional techniques of masking Indian sewing. The mediums used are turkey quills, chalk beads, seed beads, sequin, stones and satin. Most of Big Chief Shaka’s works generally include an abstract theme, a nature theme, or an African theme sometimes all three combined.

This white suit was crafted to honor the endangered Toucan Bird. Chief Shaka Zulu brings awareness to the extinction of this beautiful species. This suit was sewn with the assistance of the WaMeru and Maasai youth in Tanzania, Africa
