Christian Vey was born November 8, 1960 in St. Ettiene, France. A former member of the French National Judo team, Christian’s day job since 1981 has been teaching judo. At night he can be found in his studio, drawing forth color from the darkness. While on holiday in Brittany in 1986 he discovered painting. While seemingly unrelated, judo and painting fit together well for Christian; the same feelings of energy and accomplishment that he experienced in judo affected him while he painted. For the first time he was able to express his life long love of jazz through his painting. He tries to give a sound to each of his colors, carrying away his subjects in the improvised rhythms of his music. His men and women dance and sway, spilling out of the borders of his paintings; one can almost hear the wail of a saxophone, the beat of a drum.

Appropriately enough, one of his first exhibitions was at a Jazz Festival in France. Since 1991, when he began showing his work, he has had successful shows in Canada, Paris, and Vienne as well as being a member of “de la maison des artistes à Paris.”
